Maggie of the Marshes
Maggie of the Marshes is a heart-warming, character-driven work of commercial fiction that celebrates life on the Cape Shore of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula in the early 1960’s. The title character—a mysterious, mystical old woman who communicates with both living and dead—appears at a convent door in St. John’s and tells a traumatized young nun, Fiona O’Neill, that she will find the answers to her problems in Heaven Cove. Through Maggie and with the help of the unforgettable people of Heaven Cove, Fiona rebounds from a devastating ordeal, learns the secret surrounding her father's childhood, and finds her true home.
WAVE OVER WAVE, my third novel, is in-progress.

WAVE OVER WAVE is the working title of my third novel. It is a captivating story of love, loyalty and tragedy, spanning four decades.

The life of the heroine, Kate Kerrigan, is forever altered in 1929 when a devastating tsunami attacks the Burin Peninsula in Newfoundland, destroying Kate’s home, and killing her mother and siblings. Kate and her father move to the fishing and farming community of Argentia where, at the onset of World War II, they lose their home again when Argentia is transformed almost overnight into a strategic U.S. naval base.

Filled with powerful and enduring characters, WAVE OVER WAVE is a haunting saga in which Kate Kerrigan struggles to come to terms with the silhouette of tragedy that is her constant companion.

CASTLES IN THE SAND
Set in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2010, my novel CASTLES IN THE SAND is mainstream fiction—a modern-day tragedy based on my contest-winning short story of the same name.

Justin Wentworth, a victim of a sense of entitlement and an economy in crisis, is thirty-eight and homeless. In an alley off Robson Street, thugs attack him, beat him, and toss him into a dumpster.

Steve Jameson, a twenty-five-year-old graduate student doing research on the homeless, finds the unconscious Justin, takes him in and starts him on his road to recovery.

Justin slowly reveals his story to Steve: the tragedy of his parents’ death which leaves him alone and penniless at eighteen; the joy of his marriage which results in the birth of his beloved son; the triumph of his rise to prosperity and prominence through real estate; the illusion of entitlement which leads him into a downward spiral of spending, drinking and gambling without thought to consequence; and the disaster of the housing market crash which is the catalyst to his losing everything, including his family.

Justin’s quest is to get off the street and to regain his family; with Steve's friendship and help, Justin has hope. However, Justin begins to suspect Steve's motives, to wonder if, by trusting Steve he has built yet another relationship on faulty ground--another of many CASTLES IN THE SAND.
